Galerie Nakai is run by me, Hiromi Nakai, originally from Tokyo, Japan.

I studied at the Wackers Academie in Amsterdam in the late 1990s. Not long afterwards, my husband and I moved to France with our two children, where we made our home in the rolling landscape of southern Burgundy.

In 2016, we opened Galerie Nakai in the small town of Tournus. Over the following ten years, I had the pleasure of working closely with a wonderful group of artists and welcoming visitors from many different countries.

In 2025, we returned to the Netherlands and settled in Weesp, where Galerie Nakai has found a new home. The gallery continues under the same name and with the same spirit. Alongside my own paintings, I present the work of artists whose work I admire, many of whom I have worked with since our years in France, together with a number of new artists.

Being both an artist and a gallery owner gives me a unique perspective. I know the commitment, vulnerability and joy that go into making art, and I enjoy creating a place where that work can be seen, appreciated and collected. Galerie Nakai is, above all, a space for paintings that move us. Works that invite us to slow down, look closely and keep discovering something new.

We usually open on Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon. And sometimes also on Sunday.
But as we live in the same building, you can always give us a call and drop by for a viewing and a coffee.
