Pere Mon, a painter from Barcelona
Pere (Catalan for ‘Pedro’) Mon is an intimate painter who seeks to evoke emotion without seeking to impress or surprise.
In his paintings, he avoids anything anecdotal, superficial or artificial, and seeks the simplicity of everyday things. Objects are merely patches of colour spread across the canvas.
Within this simplicity, he seeks out nuances and tries to capture the atmosphere of his subjects.
Look, observe and explain everything you see, but do so honestly to shed new light on recurring themes.
Career
Studied Fine Arts (specialising in painting) at the Sant Jordi School, University of Barcelona (UB). Studio/workshop in Barcelona and Viladrau (Montseny), Girona. Lecturer at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Barcelona).
